A one-day workshop learning how to make round Catalan-style willow baskets. Suitable for all abilities, this design makes it possible to achieve a good size round basket in a day. Starting with a pre-dried willow hoop, we will learn how to build the base using tension and creating a beautiful contemporary design showing off the natural willow colours. Participants will learn one or two weave patterns to build up the sides, depending on time, and finish with a rod border. Packed with traditional techniques, this basket could be used on the table for fruit or bread, storage around the home, or displayed on the wall.

During the day there will be a chance to discuss lots of aspects of basket making including soaking and preparing willow, how to design your baskets by selecting the right materials, and variations in weave patterns.
