In this workshop Tess will introduce you to the ancient craft of basketry and guide you through the steps needed to weave your very own spiral topped basket, with a wooden handle. You will learn about safe tool use and different basket constructions, you will be using the 'stake and strand' method. You will learn at least two different textural weaves for the sides, making design decisions as you go along choosing willow colours from a beautiful selection of locally grown natural material.
You will finish the basket off by weaving the asymmetric spiral top which is a traditional Polish design, and fit a unique wooden handle. You will leave this workshop with a beautiful and useful basket to take home, having gained lots of basketry skills, learning new weaves and gaining confidence in your abilities to make things with willow. Tess will allow time to discuss harvesting and soaking willow for your future basket weaving projects.
